A different kind of Christmas Market

The Christmas market at Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Edinburgh was a bit of an experiment where the makers just dropped off their sales items for the staff to display and sell on their behalf. Visitors had to book a slot in advance so it wasn’t certain that enough people would sign up to make it worthwhile. In fact it was a sell out!

The yellow print top left went off to a new home and lots of other pieces were sold. A great idea by Out of the Blue staff for negotiating the current situation.

Pentland Hills Coronavirus Lockdown Monoprint Lynda Wilson 2020

Upright Gallery Edinburgh – Coming Up for Air

31st to 21st August 2020

Lynda built a new studio in the garden earlier this year and has been using it to the full during the Covid-19 lockdown, mostly producing prints and artist books from reference sketches she made during past outings to Hastings and Dungeness or on her daily walks in the nearby Pentland Hills to the south of the city.

The lockdown period brought new printing experiments. A small press and a small screen were used to make mono prints, linoprints plus screenprints using paper stencils rather than photographic methods as there was no access to sophisticated equipment.

Artists’ books are folded sketches made in the hills, folded prints or books made online. The paintings include an element of print. The main subject matters are the coast and the hills.
