Contemporary Art Practice

I’ve just completed a year long course in Contemporary Art Practice at Leith School of Art. My final project looked at the language of brutalist architecture and developed an ’alphabet’ of recurring forms. This was presented in individual lino printed ’letters’ on japanese paper and deconstructed in three dimensional plaster blocks.

St Ives and the Sea

Here’s one of the finished paintings.

I’ve been making preparatory paintings with collage in a five week course at Paintbox School of Art in Cockenzie, East Lothian, called St Ives and the Sea. A process-led first 3 weeks and now I’ll be moving on to make three final paintings. I’ll post them on the website when they’re finished.

At the Beach

My exhibition at Dungeness in Kent was a great success. Lots of visitors (and sales!). Plus I met some of my Instagram followers for the first time. Here’s a view through the window with two of my paintings on found wood. Top one sold.

My exhibition with husband Ron has now opened for three days at Dungeness Open Studios in Kent. Here’s a photo of the beach hut we’re using to show our work which is inspired by our visits to Dungeness for the past 8 years.

Printing the City

I’ve been making collagraphs using card packaging as my plate, incising and peeling the card before inking it up for intaglio printing. The resultant print is then reassembled into a 3D object. I’ve added them to some previous lino print assemblies to make an imaginary city. This is all working towards my final project in my printmaking course.

Experiment in printmaking

I’ve been learning a few new printmaking methods on my course at Leith School of Art. Recent methods relate to working with simple tools and materials because the course is temporarily online until lockdown restrictions are eased.

This week we learned ‘kitchen litho’, a form of lithography using silver foil, wax crayons, Coca Cola, vegetable oil and oil paint. Here is an image of a plate and of two prints.

Inspired by High Rise by J G Ballard (1975), this book contains rubber stamping and monoprints of imaginary brutalist high rise buildings. The typed text is key words taken from the book, but breaks down and eventually collapses as does the life of the inhabitants of the fictional high rise.

A New Project for a New Year

I’m working on a new project, an installation. Here’s a sneak peak at one of the prints I’ve made as an experiment before tackling the final pieces. The working title is High Rise.

A different kind of Christmas Market

Lynda Wilson Artist at Makeshift, Out of the Blue Drill Hall
Lynda Wilson Artist at Makeshift, Out of the Blue Drill Hall

The Christmas market at Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Edinburgh was a bit of an experiment where the makers just dropped off their sales items for the staff to display and sell on their behalf. Visitors had to book a slot in advance so it wasn’t certain that enough people would sign up to make it worthwhile. In fact it was a sell out!

The yellow print top left went off to a new home and lots of other pieces were sold. A great idea by Out of the Blue staff for negotiating the current situation.
